Ebonyi State Governor, Engr. Dave Umahi approved the re-opening of courts in the state, effective from Monday, 29th of June, 2020.
The shutdown of courts, which also affected the federal high court in the state, occurred last week when it was alleged that some staff of the judiciary tested positive of Coronavirus.
Governor Umahi who directed that the courts should open for business on Saturday, told staff to maintain social distancing and other Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) protocols on COVID-19.
This was contained in a statement issued to journalists and signed by the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation and Ag. Commissioner for Human Capital Development and Monitoring, Barr. Orji Uchenna Orji.
‘”After consultation with the State Chief Judge, His Excellency, the Governor of Ebonyi State, has approved the re-opening of all the courts in the state with effect from Monday, 29th June 2020.
“The Governor however emphasizes the need for individuals to strictly observe the wearing of facemasks and social distancing protocols while conducting their private or public businesses,” the statement read.
However, the state governor had on Wednesday announced 26 percent reduction in 2020 budget following the outbreak of COVID-19.
The reviewed budget which is expected to be passed into law has reached the second reading at the state House of Assembly, Hanoky Media gathered.
