COVID-19: Umahi seals private hospital over death, treatment of suspected patients

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Umahi has directed for the immediate sealing of a private hospital where the suspected first COVID-19 death occurred.

Umahi also directed that the hospital management be prosecuted in accordance with State COVID-19 And Other Dangerous Infectious Diseases and Related Matters Law 2020.

This was made known by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Francis Nweze on Sunday in  Abakiliki.

“The prosecution would serve as a deterrent to other hospitals that may attempt managing COVID-19 patient without following the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) protocols,” he said.

The state Governor also debunked the rumors making round in some quarters of state that the deceased COVID-19 patient was a judiciary staff.

He explained that to there are plans by the state government to build two additional testing centers at Onicha and Ishielu local government areas of the state.

“When built would bring the total number of treatment centers in the state to 3, representing one per Senatorial district”, he noted.
