Gov. Ayade expresses dismay over traders strike in Calabar

The government of Cross River State has expressed displeasure over the recent shut-down of markets by traders in the state.

The state however said that the action of the traders were ill-timed.

The state Commissioner for Commerce, Mrs. Rosemary Archibong made this known yesterday in her office where she met with members of the National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANT), Cross River State chapter.

It could be recalled that Calabar traders association had embarked on a two day protest which began on over persistent kidnappings of her members by unknown gunmen.

Her words: “the time of this strike by your members was ill-timed because our governor, Prof Ben Ayade has done well in the area of security.

“He has reached a milestone by smashing kidnappers den, as well as fighting other criminal activities in the state and it has yielded positive steps.

“Again, there should have been proper consultation before the strike which was not done”, she added.

The traders were led by Mr Ejike Chukwu who serves as the state chairman.

Those that joined in the strike were traders that deal on electrical materials, building materials, spare parts, and Pharmaceutical products.
