The Osun State Agency for Community and Social Development Project (CSDP) has held a two-day seminar/workshop in Osogbo, the State Capital, on the impact of COVID-19 and the ways to combat and manage the novel pandemic.
Present in the seminar were desk officers from all the local governments, ministries, departments, and agencies in the state.
Speaking at the event, the Director-General of CSDP, Mrs. Aderonke Abokede noted that the outbreak of COVID-19 has disrupted daily activities and promoted gender-based violence, due to the preventive measures laid down by the Federal Government to curb the spread of the virus.
She expressed her grief on the rape and domestic violence meted out to young girls and provided avenues for the gruesome act to be curbed in Osun state and Nigeria as well.
According to her, “COVID-19 has brought about low income which has resulted in stress, domestic violence, unwanted pregnancies and made a lot of women to be trapped with physical and domestic abusers”.
In his presentation, Finance and Admin. Manger of Osun CSDP . Mr Akinsola Ogunsakin pondered on the micro and macro effects of COVID-19 on the economy of the country.
He explained that the effect of COVID-19 on project finance and completion includes cost overrun, disruption in project time and risk of abandoned projects, which he believes might promote fraud”.
Some participants at the seminar, Mrs. Oladele Elizabeth and Mr Jide Akano appreciated the efforts of the Osun CSDP in organizing a program that enlighted them on the impact of COVID-19 on society.
The Osun CSDP was launched in 2009 under the administration of the former Governor, Mr. Olagunsoye Oyinlola
