In compliance with the decision of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) National Body to shelve the planned industrial strike scheduled for today, Monday, the Nigeria Labour Union (NLC), Kaduna State Council, has urged all its members and affiliates to abide by the decision and directive of the National body.
The council also informed her members to await the next line of action from the National Body, pending the outcome of the National Working Committee’s decisions.
It should be recalled that the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) had earlier scheduled today, September 28, for a nationwide rally to protest the increase in the price of petrol and electricity.
However, the unions (NLC and TUC), at the early hours of the day, suspended the strike action and planned protest after a late-night meeting with the Federal Government at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The unions also resolved to review their decision in the next two weeks to ascertain whether their agreement with the Federal Government is being complied with.
The Kaduna NLC Chairman, Comrade Ayuba Suleiman, while addressing members of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, Kaduna State, relayed the message on the suspension of the strike action.
He prevailed on the members to obey the directive and decision.
His words: “As you can see, we have mobilised our members across the 23 local government areas to participate in the planned protest and strike, but we are left with no option than to obey the directive to shelve it.”
“We have instruction from the National Secretariat to suspend the planned twin actions; the strike and the peaceful protest.”
He continued, “The message came to us this morning, and as you can see, you can’t rule the fact that we are ready, we are on the ground and we have the capacity to mobilise Kaduna workers and masses for the protest.”
“We gathered reliable information that Congress has called for the Central Working Committee meeting by 4 pm today. I want to believe that the CWC will meet today to peruse the agreement and come with a resolution on the next line of action.”
”As a State Congress, we don’t have much to do than to abide by the instruction of the National Secretariat and wait for the outcome of the CWC.”
The NLC Chairman further assured the members of adequate representation when the expected meeting shall be called.
He also commended all the union members for their courage, solidarity and support.
