The palm oil from Cross River State has been described as one in the best quality and high demand in many states of Nigeria’s northern states and in West Africa.
The managing director of Sunnah Oil Palm Enterprise in Calabar, Alhaji Danlami Saleh made this known.
Saleh who is also a dealer added that the demand is such that they averagely sell a truck of 30 tons for over N11 million and despatches at least seven trucks per week to states in the north.
The 41-year-old indigene of Bauchi state who has lived in Cross River State for 24 years, maintained that they usually have orders from even outside the country.
But he explained that the major challenge in the sector is funding and support from the federal government.
Saleh further said all they require from the government is to establish plantations, processing plants and loan to farmers.
“The oil palm business is thriving but we need loans and government supports. Palm oil has equal potentials like crude oil. Government needs to diversify by returning to it.
“Cross River has the best quality palm oil which is in high demand. We have trained over 30 young people to benefit from this palm oil which has many by-products”, he noted.
He said if the country gives attention to oil palm business it can also reduce poverty and unemployment.
Saleh said palm oil is like a goldmine in Cross River State and that it holds many attractions and potentials for the youths.
