In preparation for the Eid-el Kabir celebrations, the costs of food items, cattles, ram, and other poultry products have significantly dropped in Kano State.
Hanoky Media reports that in some rural markets that were visited, a lot of dairy products and food items were sold in large numbers and in open places.
Speaking to Hanoky Media, the Chairman of Vouchers Association, Malam Muhammadu Danfulani Badume stated, “You know that people have no money at hand because the COVID-19 pandemic has negatively affected the economy. We met and reduced the cost of livestock so that everybody can afford to buy something for the Sallah celebrations”.
Lamenting on the raging COVID-19 pandemic effect, Malam Hassan Waddau, who bought a ram at the Dawanau open market lamented, “This year, COVID-19 has brought a lot of hardship. I think only a few people can afford to buy ram, either for sacrifice or for consumption, but we thank God that the cost of livestock have been reduced. Everybody can afford to get at least one”.
He further said, “The regular livestock gifts by politicians and other public office holders is minimal because everyone is being hit by the financial effects of the COVID-19 pandemic”.
Hanoky Media visited other open markets at Badume, Dawanau, Dambatta, Wudil, and Geranya, and observed that the costs of livestock relatively remained the same, with no reduction in prices.
