German second division side, FC St. Pauli have secured the services of former Nigerian under-20 defensive midfielder, Afeez Aremu.
The 20-year old moved from Norwegian first division club, IK Start Kristiansand, for an undisclosed fee, and he has signed a contract that would keep him with the German team till 2023.
The Ibadan born footballer started his professional career in Nigeria before moving abroad to play in the Ghana league. Thereafter, he teamed up with IK Start in Norway where he made 63 appearances, scoring 5 goals.
Speaking at his unveiling, Aremu said: “I’m glad I’m finally here. When the offer came from St. Pauli, I didn’t have to think twice. It’s a big club and for me, the change is the next important step in my development.”
“Now I can’t wait to get to know my teammates and start working.”
The Hamburg-based club side who plied their trade in the lower division of the German league ended the 2919/2020 season in 14th place, earning 34 points from 34 league games.
The brown and whites as they are known last appeared in the Bundesliga during the 2010/2011 season and their only appearance before then was a single-season appearance in 2001–2002.
