Organizers of F1 have announced that Racing Point driver, Sergio Perez will not take part in this weekend’s race taking place in the UK. This is coming after the driver tested positive for COVID-19.
Perez, who currently sets in the 6th place on the driver’s championship table has become the first driver to test positive for COVID-19 since the Formula One Season started in August.
According to the website of Formula One’s Governing Body (F1.com), “The Racing Point driver was self-isolating and was absent from the circuit on Thursday”.
Perez has self-quarantined, in accordance with the instructions of the relevant public health authorities. He is advised to follow the procedure mandated by the health authorities.
In a swift reaction to Perez’s COVID-19 result, a full track and trace initiative has been undertaken and all close contacts to Perez have been quarantined.
The Mexican driver’s team of Racing Point said in a statement, “Sergio is physically well and in good spirits, but he will continue to self-isolate under the guidelines of the relevant public health authorities. The safety of our team members is the ultimate priority for the team and the sport”.
It is not yet clear who will fill the boots of Sergio and race for Racing Point in the Fourth and Fifth races of the season set to take place in Britain.
