The United Church Of Christ In Nations (UCCN) popularly know as HEKAN Church has decried the increasing insecurity in the country, leading to killings of innocent citizens, loss of lives, and property.

HEKAN President, Rev. Amos G. Kiri expressed this while delivering his speech on the state of the nation and the church on Sunday, August 2, 2020, at Kaduna.

In his words, “Each time I remember and reflect on the evil being perpetrated in the country, especially on the innocent and the less privileged, I weep for my dear country, Nigeria”.

“I urge the government to double its efforts in protecting Nigerians from these hoodlums and bloodthirsty individuals. They need not be reminded that their primary responsibility is the security and welfare of its citizens; every single life of Nigerian is sacred and must be preserved”.

“If only the effort invested in the fight against COVID-19 could be replicated in the fight against insecurity, Nigeria will be a safe place for every one of us”, he further stated.

Rev. Kiri also lamented on the terrorism, kidnappings, and unauthorized purchase and acquisition of deadly arms.

According to him, “Those that are not authorized to own arms are the ones today holding and parading sophisticated arms at will. These arms are used to kill Nigerians, loot their properties, and burn their houses”.

He added that the Buhari-led government appears to be doing little in stopping these unfortunate situations. “Whatever they have done, it is not enough”, he decried.

“Rape cases of children and women are completely unacceptable and unbefitting of a God-fearing nation. Whatever that can be done must be done immediately so as to maintain the sanctity of our women and children”.

“We join other Nigerians, especially the National Assembly, to call on Mr. President to address the security architecture of our dear nation. He should give experienced officers with fresh ideas the opportunity to tackle the deficiencies of the nation’s security”, the cleric further stressed.
