The Imo State Police Command yesterday arrested a traditional ruler, Eze Andrew Okuegbunwa of Uba Community of Awara in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area for alleged involvement in a kidnapping.
He was also nabbed alongside one Pastor Caleb Agu, who is accused of the same crime.
The traditional ruler was paraded alongside 8 other suspects at Police Command Headquarters, Owerri.
Reports had it that they were also accused of having hands in the recent killing of two staff members of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
It was gathered that the traditional ruler provided the gang with an operation vehicle.
Briefing Journalists at the Command Headquarters, Owerri, the Commissioner of Police, Isaac Akinmoyede said that the suspects were nabbed on the 28th of July 2020 by operatives of Special Anti-robbery Squad.
“His arrest also led to the arrest of one Bernard Uzoma, a native doctor at Umunoha in Mbaitolu L.G.A of the State, whose job was to provide the gang with charm”.
A total sum of N4.2 million was recovered from the suspects.
However, during interaction with Journalists, the monarch denied the claim, stressing that the group only approached him and pleaded to use his car for an urgent engagement.
Eze Okuegbunwa further confessed that the N3.5 Million given to him by the suspects was the value cost for his car, which they lost.
It was further disclosed that the vehicle belonging to the traditional ruler was not registered and not recorded in the Federal Road Safety Corps database.
