Following the devastation caused by floods in Kebbi State and other parts of the country, members of the State Chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) have called on governments at all level and well-meaning individuals to come to the aid of farmers.
The AFAN Chairman, Usman Dan-Gwandu Suru made this called at Birnin Kebbi.
His words, “The flood disaster which claimed over 50,000 hectares of arable land across the state has caused monumental damage to farmlands and cut short the hope of farmers in having bumper harvest this year.”
“The authority of the Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority must not throw caution to the wind when releasing water from their dams so as to forestall the losses caused by the floods”, Usman added.
Suru expressed his commendation for Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Attihiru Maccido, and Management of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) for their accelerated response to affected farmers and appealed for more assistance to cushion the effects of the disaster.
Hanoky Media had earlier reported that flooding has caused destroyed farmlands in many parts of Kebbi State.
