Residents of Gwamai Bayan Makaranta in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano state yesterday, appealed to the State Governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Gunduje, to come to their aid following the devastating effect of the flooding which occurred in the area on Saturday.
Our correspondent who visited the area observed that farmlands worth millions of naira were washed away by the flood. Also destroyed were household properties, ponds, and poultry farms.
Speaking on behalf of the victims, Malam Auwalu Bala Gwamai explained that the cause of the flood was due to the heavy downpour of rain that lasted for hours during the weekend.
His words: “This has been our ugly experience whenever there is heavy downpour like it did today (Saturday)”.
“As you can see, our crops were washed away by the flood while our houses were submerged by water”, he added.
Another victim, Malam Auwalu Bala, who begged the State Government to come to his aid, noted that 2 of his groundnut farms were affected by the flood.
“We have been on this flood issue for months, especially during this raining season. So we are begging the Ministry of Environment and Ecological Funds to intervene”.
“Why? Because we can’t continue this way every time it rains. So please, I am begging the Ministry of Environment and Ecological Funds to intervene, by erecting a channel for this flood to flow easily”, he appealed.
