The Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle has sympathized with the flood victims of Hayin Buba in Gusau and Zurmi Local Government areas of the state.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Director-General, Media and Communication, Yusuf Idris Gusau, and made available to Hanoky Media yesterday.
Governor Matawalle further assured the victims of his administration’s readiness to provide relief materials.
He subsequently directed the State Directorate of Disaster and Humanitarian Affairs to immediately assess the level of damages and send its report to the appropriate authority for prompt action.
Hanoky Media gathered that the recent flood destroyed hundreds of houses and rendered many families homeless.
“I was told that some families were rendered homeless as a result of the downpour which damaged their farm products and houses”, the Governor said.
He also called on the people of the state to ensure total clearing of waterways, drainages and culverts in order to have a free floor of all rainwater especially in this month of August.
He added that the clearing will make the environment more hygienic and accessible to all inhabitants.
A resident by name Musa Hassan said the cause of the flood was the River Gagare which often overflew its bank during a heavy downpour.
“The height of River recently is frightening and very very unusual”, he said.
