Ebonyi state governor, Engr. David Umahi yesterday said that positive cases of patients with COVID-19 in the state have reached 40 figures in one month.

He added that a total of 1,472 suspected cases have been successfully tested of which 32 were recorded as active cases.

But the rising confirmed positive cases have not created panic than decline among residents in the adaption of the precautionary measures issued by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control. (NCDC)

Five days ago, confirmed positive cases stood at 33 while a total of 206 persons are presently being held at the Isolation centers across the state.

At the moment 8 persons have been successfully treated and discharged.

“So far we have tested 1,472 persons and a total of 40 tested positive cases and 8 have been treated and discharged.

“Also, we have a total of 206 people at the 40 holding centres across the 13 local government areas.

Umahi explained that the security council meeting and COVID:19 team in their meeting held on Thursday agreed to convert the general hospital at Elinwovbu in Abakiliki local government area as an additional treatment center.

He stated further that the sum of 80 million naira has been approved by the state for the immediate renovation of the hospital so as to meet the required standard.

“The security council meeting and COVID:19 team today approved that Elinwovbu general hospital should be the next treatment center.

“The house also approved the 80 million naira for the renovation of the hospital and that should be done in 10 days”, he explained.

Hanoky Media gathered that the reason for Elinwovbu general hospital as another treatment centers for conoravirus was the delay in the completion of the 350 beds capacity at Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakiliki.
