The kidnapping of 2 Chinese men in Ebonyi: We are yet to hear from the hoodlums or our staff.

The manager of Greenfield Metals Nigeria Limited yesterday said that they are yet to receive calls from the kidnappers who whisked away two of their foreign staff to an undisclosed location on Wednesday.

The company further added that nor of the two abductors have called either.

The chairman of the company, Mr. Henry Ahanaotu who had made known said that the company had made official report to the state police command, Abakiliki over the incident on Wednesday.

“We are yet to establish the identity of the abductors or where they came from nor heard from our two staff or call from the kidnappers,” he said.

The two kidnapped victims were Chinese expatriates working at a mining site located at Ihietutu, Ishiagu in Ivo Local Government Area of State.

The unidentified gunmen shot, sporadically into the air so as to scare away workers and residents during their raid.

Hanoky Media learnt that the duo Chinese nationals specialises on mining of lead and zinc and are employees of Greenfield Metals Nigeria Limited.

But this is marking the second time in just 3 months, staff of the same company were abducted by unknown gunmen in the area.

The state police command spokesperson DSP, Loveth Odah who confirmed the incident added that the command has commerced investigation into the matter.

“We got the information yesterday and we have commerce investigation into the matter.

“A detachment of our tactical team was dispatched to the area with a view to unraveling the true situation and also to rescue the victims.

“The team is yet to return to furnish us with relevant information about the incident.

“But I can confirm to you that we received a distress call from the area yesterday informing the police of an alleged abduction of two Chinese working in a mining site at Ihietutu in Ishiagu community.

“We are waiting for information from our men before we can make informed comments on the motive behind the alleged abduction.

“For now, we cannot say if the abduction was for ransom purposes or not because the abductors are yet to establish contacts with the company.”, she said.
