Community Policing: South East in terms with IG. Umahi explains.

The South East Governor’s Forum, yesterday came to terms with Inspector General of police, Mr. Mohammed Idris over the implementation of community policing in the region.

The Chairman of the forum and governor of Ebonyi state, David Umahi also explained that there was never any disagreement on the issue with the IG.

He maintained that the five states in the region would engage the services of the various local security apparatus currently existing in their areas.

Umahi, also reitarated that the training of the personnel at the various local government areas of the states would be mar by the police while the advisory committee shall be chaired by the Council Chaiman, traditional rulers with some stakeholders as members.

He made these known at the end of it’s regional security meeting, held at the new governor’s lodge, centenary site, Abakiliki.

“There is no disagreement on community policing at the community level.The IG agreed that the various security apparatus we have at the local government communities will be deployed including the council Chaimen.

“And of course the advisory community will be headed by His Royal Highness of that community with selected stakeholders”, he explained.

The basic agenda which formed issue of discussion at the meeting which lasted for two hours, were picked from the recent communiqué released on Sunday during their meeting held in Enugu.

Umahi directed that the course possibility of the agenda would be marched with similar law expected to enacted by governors of the five States.

“The meeting centred on the communiqué we issued after our Sunday meeting of Governors and media of Southeast at Enugu.

“We also agreed that each state pass a similar law which we call southeast security law among other things in corporation with this community policing based on these guidelines”, he noted

Those in attendance were elders, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, His Excellency, Jim Nwobodo. General Obi Umahi(rtd) of Southeast security, Engr. Prince Okoye.

Also, were the five governors of the zone, the Inspector General of Police, Ohaneze Ndigbo, President General, Ogbonnaya Nwodo and Traditional rulers.
